Atholl Road Walling & New Entrance Signs
Pitlochry in Bloom have been working on this project for over four long years. Originally it was hoped to finish Phase 3 of the Atholl Road Project and wall along the Railway line at the north end of Atholl Road. However, Roads Dept changed the goalposts on how close we could build to the road and so the project has changed from its original concept. We also became aware that our metal entrance signs were wearing away with the continual salting of the roads in winter and needed replacing.
So, we are delighted to have commissioned David Wilson, the famous local outdoor artist, to build a revised wall feature and three new stone and steel entrance features to acknowledge Pitlochry in Bloom’s achievements. The first of our new stones was lifted into place this week and we thank Norrie Campbell for his kind assistance with this. The stone looks rather a dark grey at the moment, that is because it is freshly quarried. Once it gets weathered, the oxides will work out and it will start to turn a more golden sandstone colour.
Of course, all of this necessitated raising further funding and Piitlochry in Bloom wish to thank all the sponsors who have contributed to this project and helped us secure nearly £ 40,000 to complete what we began four years ago. This funding has also paid for the new, larger containers on the Atholl Road Arcading, which has now been completed by Alec Stewart and awaiting our new, larger baskets for summer 2007. We also have to thank Dougie McPhee for tidying up some sycamores along the fence for us. Big thanks to everyone involved. We are nearly there!!
