Britain in Bloom 2007

The penny farthing floral displayPitlochry in Bloom is delighted to be the recipient of a Royal Horticultural Society Gold Award, one of only 14 presented to the 68 finalists in the prestigious Britain in Bloom awards ceremony in Coventry Cathedral on Wednesday 26th September. A fabulous evening presented by Susan Hampshire, saw Perthshire walk away with two Gold Awards for Pitlochry & Comrie.

Sally Spaven, the Pitlochry Chairman along with Isobel Ives of Comrie were recipients of two of the six special awards given to Community Champions. These discretionary awards are presented to individuals who have shown real dedication and passion for the Bloom campaign and have kept their communities blooming throughout the years.

Well done everyone! For full results see www.rhs.org.uk/britaininbloom

We have been working away quietly redesigning and replanting our features over the past four years and the culmination of all our endeavours scooped our first Gold Award and the prestige of the Linton Trophy from Beautiful Scotland for Horticultural Excellence. We are indebted to the many folk who have helped us this year, we could not achieve so much without your support. Thank you all very, very much.

We were commended by Britain In Bloom for our efforts to promote tourism in Pitlochry, although Cleethorpes won the Tourism Award.

Judges visit the town in early August it is, of course, not only the floral displays that are looked at and scrutinised. The cleanliness of pavements and streets, the absence of weeds, litter and dog-fouling are taken into account. Points are also awarded for waste minimsation, re-use and re-cycling. The community spirit of the town where everyone takes pride in keeping Pitlochry a clean and green place is evident for all to see.
